Blake Wheeler is an American professional hockey player known for his leadership, playmaking ability, and versatility. Born on August 31, 1986, in Plymouth, Minnesota, Wheeler was drafted 5th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2004 NHL Draft. However, he began his NHL career with the Boston Bruins before establishing himself as a star with the Winnipeg Jets, where he served as team captain from 2016 to 2022.
A 6’5” power forward, Wheeler is celebrated for his combination of size, speed, and skill. He consistently ranks among the league’s top assist producers and has been an integral part of both the Jets’ even-strength and power-play units. Wheeler earned multiple All-Star selections throughout his career and reached the 1,000 NHL games milestone in 2021. After spending 13 seasons with Winnipeg, Wheeler joined the New York Rangers in 2023, bringing veteran leadership to a young, talented squad.
Off the ice, Wheeler is known for his community involvement and mentorship. As he transitions toward the later stages of his playing career, he has also shown interest in coaching and developing young talent.
Blake and his wife, Sam, have been married 14 years and are raising 3 amazing children (Louie, 12, Leni, 9, Mase, 7) in Greenwich, CT. They love traveling together and especially enjoy attending sporting events and concerts/Broadway shows.
